lay out

To spend a large amount of money on something.

Ex) The company laid out a huge sum of money to get the machinery.

leave out

To exclude or omit.

Ex) Don’t leave out this major point in your sales pitch.

look in on

To visit someone briefly to learn how they are doing.

Ex) The company president is going to look in on the new development project staff to see what progress they have made.

look into

To investigate or research.

Ex) He will look into this area of manufacturing to determine whether our company can compete.

lose out

To miss an opportunity or be at a disadvantage.

Ex) We must approach new customers with our great new product. If they don’t know how much better our product is, we will lose out to our competition.
